Head coach Dino Toppmöller on teams news and the weekend’s match against Gladbach.
Eintracht Frankfurt are away to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the primetime Saturday evening slot on Bundesliga Matchday 5 (kick-off 18:30 CEST).
At his pre-match press conference, head coach Dino Toppmöller spoke about…
… the opposition: “The was a clear uptick in the way Borussia Mönchengladbach played in their first game since changing coaches. I’m expecting a passionate stadium, a passionate Gladbach team and also a passionate Eintracht Frankfurt team. I’m looking forward to a good and intensive game of football.”
… how things stand: “Our preparations, in particular those of our analysts, our certainly a lot harder because Gladbach have only played one game under their new coach [Eugen Polanski]. We don’t know if the way they played against Leverkusen was specifically tailored to that game, or if that’s how he wants them to play all the time. We’re going to Gladbach to pick up all three points. We’ve trained really well over the last couple of days and want to have a good final session on Friday.”
… personnel: “Rasmus Kristensen isn’t available for our games this Saturday or on Tuesday, but he might be back next weekend. Nnamdi Collins is a bit of a doubt. He felt a twinge in his adductor on Wednesday and had to cut training short, but there’s no structural damage. If he comes through our final training session without any issues and says he can play, then he will.”
… Ellyes Skhiri: “Generally speaking, I have a lot of faith in all of our players. The fact that Ellyes Skhiri hasn’t played a lot of minutes recently is due to the injury he sustained before the season started. He didn’t play in any of our pre-season friendlies. He had a brief appearance against Galatasaray and we got the impression that everything was fine and that he was going into the challenges in the way he needed to given the position he plays in. He’s starting to trust his body more. It was always going to be a long process, so for him the season starts a bit later. On top of that, the players competing with him in his position have done really well. Ellyes is being patient. In our loss against Union I had the feeling that Skhiri would have done us a lot of good, so obviously that makes him a candidate to start in our upcoming game.”
… Eintracht’s defence: “We’ve definitely made too many individual errors. We’ve conceded nine goals in the Bundesliga, which is too many. Having said that, we have to look at the reasons for those goals – there hasn’t been a clear pattern. We just need to be tidier on the ball, and when we lose possession we need to go into the tackles with greater conviction. That’s the message I’ve given the team. If we do that, we definitely won’t concede as many goals.”
