Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Dario Vidošić says that his side’s focus will be on winning rather than league ranking when they face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Seagulls travel to the Midlands to contest their final fixture of the 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Super League season.

When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Vidošić said that the fixture could potentially be a great game.

“We want to finish off really well this weekend,” Vidošić said. “We’ve had two great games against them. It’s a fantastic stadium that we get to play in against a very good team that’s also on a very good run. It’s two teams in form, both want to finish the season on a positive note, so I think it has all of the makings for a really good game.”

A fifth-place finish is all-but-confirmed for The Seagulls but Vidošić wants to keep focus on performance rather than ranking.

He said “We’re not looking at that, we’re going for three points as always. We want to play our game, win the game and finish as strongly as possible. I’ll never say that we just want to go out for a point or do this or that. That’s when you get yourself in trouble when the mindset changes for certain games.

“We’ve analysed Villa well, they’ve changed things up a little bit in the last few weeks. We’ve looked at all of that, we’ve prepared for all of that but if they make any changes, we will be ready with all of the tests that we’ve faced this season. We are well-prepared and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Reflecting on the season as a whole, Vidošić admitted that he is pleased with how his side have performed and he acknowledges the fact that challenging at the top end of the league table will take significant time and development.

He said “We are all in it to win. We can’t jump too far ahead and say ‘we want to be right up there’, it’s a process and it’s going to take time.

“There’s a lot of stuff to be positive about. There are other times where it’s a little bit tougher; through that winter period where it just wasn’t clicking for us, we couldn’t find our rhythm and it felt like it was going against us a little bit. If we take away the latter position, there’s a lot to be happy about, there’s a lot to be positive about. We’ve been present in really big games against tough opponents.

“We are taking steps in the right direction. We can be really pleased with what we’ve achieved and every accolade, all of the praise should go to the players.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
