Maria McAneny’s reward for an impressive run of form for Celtic in the first part of the SPWPL season has been her first call-up to the full Scotland national squad.

The attacking midfielder has scored eight goals for the Hoops in 14 games, the most recent coming in Sunday’s 2-0 league win over Partick Thistle, while she’s also chipped in with three assists.

And she joins Celtic team-mate, Emma Lawton, in Melissa Andretta’s Scotland squad for a trip to Spain, where the team will play two friendly matches against Ukraine (Nov 28 (Nov 28) and China (Dec 2).

Maria McAneny had also been performing well for the Scotland U23 squad, and will now be hoping for the opportunity to do so for the national squad.

Speaking to Celtic TV after Sunday's win over Partick Thistle, Maria McAneny said: It was important to get the three points, and obviously the clean sheet.

"But as a whole, we know there are definitely things we can improve upon, especially after the international break, so I think that is what we are going to aim to do.

‘It’s always a good feeling scoring. That is what I want to do – I want to contribute, so hopefully I can just keep that up and keeping doing that as the season progresses."

Congratulations to Maria on her first Scotland call-up, and good luck to all the Celts on international dury.
