Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri has responded to questions over his future during international duty with Algeria amid transfer interest from Manchester City.

Officials at the Etihad Stadium have identified the 23-year-old as their number one priority transfer target for the left-sided full-back position this summer, and hold optimism over welcoming the defender to the club before June 10.

City have the opportunity to sign players between June 1 and June 10 as part of a new format of mini-transfer window to aid the FIFA Club World Cup, and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has already revealed his belief that new faces will be through the doors for the tournament.

The Algerian international is one of several deals being actively worked on by Manchester City transfer chiefs, alongside the likes of AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki – both of whom are also expected to become Pep Guardiola players this summer.

And with all three players currently on international duty with their respective nations, there has been opportunity for the media to quiz them on the ongoing media reports, with Wolves’ star the latest to issue public comment.

Speaking with El Heddaf TV during the ongoing international break and his commitments with Algeria, Rayan Ait-Nouri was quizzed four times on growing transfer interest from Manchester City ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

“For the moment I’m not focusing on that,” the 23-year-old defender insisted.

“We have two important matches with the [Algeria] national team,” he added. “We’ll see what happens next.”

There was also a brief word from the defender on Manchester City’s head coach, as Ait-Nouri said, “Everyone knows that Pep Guardiola is a great coach.”

Manchester City’s first-team stars currently not featuring for their national teams are expected to resume training next Monday, before jetting out to the United States shortly afterwards ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Among the names that have had the luxury of a rest following the conclusion of the club season are Omar Marmoush, with Egypt not having any fixtures on their agenda this month, as well as Ederson and Savinho – both of whom were not selected by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil.

Players are are currently working throughout the off-season are expected to be phased back into Manchester City action progressively as Pep Guardiola looks to steer his side through a successful three-game group stage in the US this summer.
