Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed whether he will tuning into Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
Fresh from lifting the FA Cup at Wembley and completing a cup double this term, Manchester City will be keeping a close eye on developments in north London as Arsenal take on Burnley on Tuesday night.
City are two points adrift of Arsenal heading into the final week of the season, with Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace marking the penultimate and final games of a season that has seen the Blues overachieve by many accounts.
Bournemouth vs Manchester City (Premier League): Match Preview, Team News, Head to Head, How to Watch
Pep Guardiola has a fully fit squad ahead of the midweek trip to the south coast as City aim for a strong finish to the season, with momentum on their side after a successful trip to London at the weekend.
Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have a chance of extending their lead at the top of the table to five points against Burnley on Monday night.
City would then need to win over Bournemouth 24 hours later to keep the title race alive till the final day of the Premier League campaign.
Asked about his plans to watch the Arsenal game in his pre-Bournemouth press conference on Monday afternoon, Guardiola said: “I don’t know. Maybe, yeah, I will take a look, for sure.
“But still, I have the job against Bournemouth to see what I have to show the players – still it’s not done. So I don’t know if I’ll have time, we’ll see.”
Although a Carabao Cup and FA Cup double winning campaign would be deemed successful for City – in a transitional season – Guardiola will be reminding his players that there is still a chance they can claim the Premier League title.
Predicted Starting XI: Bournemouth vs Manchester City (Premier League)
Arsenal are in a fine run of form and will be desperate to avoid any late slip-ups, though City have a strong record when the title races they’re involved in go to the final day of the season.
Guardiola will be mindful of making too many changes to his starting XI against Bournemouth off the back of City’s FA Cup final victory over Chelsea, though the Blues have ample time to rest and recover in midweek before Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa at home.
Three points are therefore a must for City down south, with Guardiola and many of the Manchester City first-team stars sure to be praying for former club captain Kyle Walker – now in claret and blue – to hand the domestic treble hopefuls the favour of all favours on Monday night.
