“We’ll take the point”

Head coach Dino Toppmöller, Rasmus Kristensen and Ansgar Knauff share their thoughts after the 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg.

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We wanted to show a reaction to the game on Wednesday, and we did that pretty well in the first few minutes. We had a lot of moves heading towards their penalty area, and we also got into their box a lot, but at the end of the half we only had the two clear-cut chances for Mario and Arthur. We just lacked that last bit of incision to make more of those openings. We kept our stability after falling behind and we showed great character. We put a lot into the game and wanted to turn it around, even after we equalised. Wolfsburg defended passionately and ultimately we could only draw 1-1. Our attitude was really good. The game against Atalanta left its mark but the boys gave everything. We covered a lot more ground than our opponents did. We shouldn’t forget that in Jonny and Can, we’re missing the two attacking players who have scored the most goals for us. We’ll take the point and at the end of the season we’ll see what it gets us.”

Ansgar Knauff: “I’ve played as a striker once or twice before. Obviously we miss Jonny Burkardt but we’re trying to compensate for that as a team. We did that well for long periods. We had a decent game. It’s very frustrating that we conceded that goal because Wolfsburg didn’t have many chances. In the 55th minute I was shaping to shoot, about six or seven metres out from goal, and I got knocked. For me it was a clear penalty. But we kept going and at least we managed to get a point. We’re frustrated that we didn’t win. We had enough chances to do so, and we also had a lot of set pieces.”

Rasmus Kristensen: “You have to be satisfied when you score the equaliser so late on. But on the whole, we’re not happy that we didn’t get all three points. Wolfsburg did well but we should have won the game here in front of our own fans.”
