Wendel’s Flamengo-themed party ignites fan calls for signing | OneFootball

Wendel, the Zenit midfielder, marked his son Henrry’s 10th birthday last weekend with a Flamengo-themed party, prompting a surge of fan excitement on social media.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Henrry and his mother wore Flamengo shirts, while Wendel kept to Zenit colours as the decorations celebrated Flamengo.

Supporters flooded platforms urging the club to sign him, praising his affection for Flamengo and arguing he would have a place in the side, with some also referencing his Fluminense roots.

Now 28, Wendel has been with Zenit since 2020/21. In 2025/26 he has made 28 appearances, scoring two and assisting two. His contract runs until June 2029.

In January 2025, Botafogo announced his signing on their website. Three months later the agreement was ended before any presentation, which had been planned for mid-year.

Wendel’s position is not a priority for Flamengo at present, with the mid-year window set to focus on forwards. If signed, he would compete with Erick Pulgar, Evertton Araújo, Jorginho, De La Cruz, Saúl and Lucas Paquetá.
