It’s expected that Maximilian Mittelstädt would remain at Hertha Berlin despite their relegation but according to Kicker, Werder Bremen are courting the 26-year-old defender who has a reported €800,000 exit clause.

Hertha Berlin were relegated on Saturday with one game remaining following their 1-1 draw against relegation rivals Bochum. Leading until the fourth minute of added time, Bochum’s Keven Schlotterbeck secured a point for Bochum which relegated Hertha to the 2. Bundesliga.

Bremen meanwhile will be playing in the Bundesliga next season after Romano Schmid resulted in a point for the Weser-club against Cologne, who took the lead through Steffen Tigges.

Planning at Bremen has already started with the left-back position an area they want to strengthen.

Mittelstädt was courted by several clubs last summer but opted to remain at Hertha, where he played 17 Bundesliga games. During his time at the club, the German left-back has played 157 games across all competitions.
