Kicker reports that Florian Kastenmeier is on Werder Bremen’s radar for next season. The Fortuna Düsseldorf goalkeeper will be a free agent at the end of this month, with any extension ruled out after their relegation to the 3. Liga.

According to Sky, Karl Hein is expected to be the starting goalkeeper, mirroring the move that saw Mio Backhaus promoted after Michael Zetterer joined Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bremen coach Daniel Thioune previously made Kastenmeier captain during his time in Düsseldorf. The 28-year-old has only appeared in the Bundesliga in 2019/20.

Werder have already sold Backhaus to Freiburg for a reported €12 million.

Kastenmeier is initially planned as deputy to the Estonian goalkeeper. The Thioune connection could be influential in talks, with other clubs also interested in the free agent.
