Fabrizio Romano reports that RB Leipzig striker André Silva is on the verge of moving to La Liga newcomers Elche CF. The Portuguese international had been targeted by Werder Bremen as a means of shoring up their severely understaffed attack, but the two Bundesliga clubs could not agree to terms. Romano does not specify how much Leipzig can hope to pocket in terms of a transfer fee.
The bad news continues to pour down on Bremen, who followed up a poor training camp with a stinging defeat in their opening round DFB fixture that left captain Marco Friedl harshly criticizing club management. The Hanseatic city-state side also had more unfortunate injury news to confirm today. Only back in the top flight for three years, Bremen are suddenly looking like relegation candidates.
Leipzig have been keen to offload Silva for quite some time. Since joining the German Red Bulls on a €23m transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2021, Silva has seen his estimated market value plummet from a career high €45m to €4m today.
Silva’s soon-to-be former parent club twice, most recently to Bremen during the latter half of last season. Silva will return to La Liga, where he last played for Real Sociedad on loan during the 2023/24 campaign.
