Another new arrival has put pen to paper for Werder Bremen. Belgium U21 international Samuel Mbangula has moved to SVW from Juventus. Peter Niemeyer, the Green-Whites’ head of professional football, officially confirmed the transfer on Wednesday.

“We’re really happy that we’ve managed to secure a deal for Samuel and that he’s decided to sign a long-term contract with Werder. We think that he’s got a lot of potential. He has enjoyed top-class youth development in Belgium and especially at Juve and also proved his quality at the highest level for Juventus last season. For us, it’s a transfer that we were fully committed to completing. We’ve always said that we’re ready to invest when we’re confident about a player and his potential. That’s absolutely the case with Samuel. We’re convinced that he’ll be able to help us out with his quality,” explained Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football at Werder Bremen.

Head coach Horst Steffen was also pleased with the attacker’s signing. “Samuel has a lot of pace. He’s been given a really good footballing and tactical education, can play across a number of positions up front and, as a result, makes our style of play more flexible. Now, it’s important for him to integrate into the side as quickly as possible. That’s why it’s good that he’s come directly to Zillertal.”

After five years in northern Italy, the 21-year-old is making the switch to the north of Germany. “I’m looking forward to this new challenge. The talks with the management and the head coach convinced me about Werder and that there’s a plan being followed here. Now, I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates at the training camp and hoping that I can bring my talent to the table straightaway,” said Samuel Mbangula.

The attacker moved from Club Brugge’s youth academy to RSC Anderlecht in 2019, before making the switch to Juventus a year later. There, he played at every youth level, from the U17s to the second team. He bagged a goal and recorded an assist against Como on his Serie A debut for Juventus in August 2024. He made 32 appearances for the Old Lady in all competitions (Serie A, Champions League, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana), scoring four goals and setting up five more in the process.
