Kicker reports that – with André Silva now out of the picture – Werder Bremen may now turn their attention to SC Freiburg striker Michael Gregoritsch in their desperate search for attacking assistance. Sport Bild linked Gregoritsch with a potential move to Werder earlier this summer. Freiburg do wish to sell the veteran, most recently seeing some light interest from 1. FC Köln peter out.
Gregoritsch – who has scored 59 German top flight goals for Freiburg, Augsburg, Hamburg, and Schalke – would constitute a solid get for the Hanseaten. The 31-year-old currently maintains an estimated €3m market value, but is obviously worth more than that to a German top flight side if he can remain fit. As recently as the 2023/24 campaign, Gregoritsch put up double digit goal totals across all competitions for Freiburg.
The 66-times capped Austrian international nevertheless delivered only three goals in 23 appearances across all competitions for the Breisgauer last season. There were again injury issues. Freiburg’s acquisition of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Igor Matanovic this summer rendered Gregoritsch fully expendable. Matanovic, Lucas Höler, and Junior Adamu currently lie above Gregoritsch on the SCF depth chart.
