DFL start announcing fixtures for the new season

The DFL announced another one of the opening weekend fixtures for the 2025/26 Bundesliga season on Thursday afternoon. The Green-Whites will start their league campaign away against Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park. The fixture will be played on either the 23rd or 24th August 2025.

The season will officially start on Friday, 22nd August 2025 as reigning champions FC Bayern München host RB Leipzig, coached by former Werder boss Ole Werner. SVW’s away game against Eintracht Frankfurt will take place on one of the following two days. The full fixture list for 2025/26 will be announced tomorrow (27/6/25).

Thoughts on SVW’s opening fixture

Head coach Horst Steffen: “It’s an exciting game to start against one of the league’s best teams. It’s a chance for us to impress right away.”

Head of professional football Peter Niemeyer: “It’s certainly a tough start to the season. Following our Pokal game, we’ve got a tricky league match first up. We’re looking forward to playing a side in the Champions League on the opening matchday.”

Captain Marco Friedl: “Playing away on matchday 1 against such a strong opponent will be a really tough start for us. Nevertheless, we want to be successful and try and get all three points if we can. We’re really looking forward to the game.”
