After the 1-1 draw at Gladbach, Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Kevin Trapp were pleased about confirming their place in European competition, despite not getting the win they hoped for.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “We had opportunities to win the match. We made things too complicated going forward, which meant we didn’t create many clear goalscoring chances. We weren’t determined or purposeful enough. The boys always work hard, we defended well but we’re making too many individual mistakes. It’s frustrating but we accept it to some extent because we have a young team. We want to give Seppl and Hase a good send-off [against Leipzig], claim the three points and secure sixth place.”

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We deliberately chose a very attacking line-up, with two attack-minded wing-backs, because we desperately wanted to win. We’re delighted to have at least seventh place and participation in Europe in the bag, but obviously we want to finish the job of sixth place. That’s what we’ll do in the home match against Leipzig.”

Kevin Trapp: “We’re pleased that we’ve reached Europe. It’s been a tricky season with a happy ending. Now we want to win the final game for Seppl and Hase so that they get a loud and rapturous send-off, like there was here.”
