Despite falling behind early, RB Leipzig made a cup comeback against 1.FC Magdeburg this evening to the delight of coach Ole Werner.
"In the first half, we were far from what we expect of ourselves. Overall, we were far too unaggressive and lacked the intensity to properly pressure the opponent.
"That's what happens when you see that; we were lacking in several areas in the first half. We showed in the second half that things can be different and better.
“We won significantly more attacking opportunities. Nevertheless, the fact remains: in the first half, it wasn't good enough,” explained Werner.
The Saxony club, who sealed their progression to the quarter-final stage of Germany's premier cup competition, also gave insights into their half-time team talk.
“During halftime, it was important that the players were clear with each other and addressed things openly.
"I then gave my summary, but it's always about offering solutions and showing how things can be improved – that's my job.
“Perhaps I didn't explain a few things clearly enough before the game. We implemented them better in the second half,” he concluded.
