Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has made a request to the players regarding how they should treat Alejandro Garnacho ahead of his return to Old Trafford.
During the summer transfer window, Garnacho completed a permanent move from United to Chelsea.
His future was the subject of intense speculation after his relationship with Ruben Amorim irreparably broke down. Angered by Amorim’s decision to leave him on the bench for the Europa League final, Garnacho slammed the head coach’s decision while also casting doubts over his future at United.
Amorim proceeded to tell him that his services were no longer needed, before adding him to the infamous ‘bomb squad.’
Garnacho attracted interest from several suitors but he made it clear that he was only keen on moving to Chelsea.
After weeks of negotiations, United and Chelsea finally struck an agreement at around the £40m mark. United retain a sell-on, which will enable them to massively benefit from any future transfers.
The Argentina made his debut for the London outfit last weekend as they played out a 2-2 draw with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
He failed to track Fabio Carvalho at the back post, allowing Brentford to snatch an added-time equaliser.
Ahead of United’s meeting with Chelsea on Saturday, Wes Brown has encouraged Ruben Amorim’s men to “smash” Garnacho as a way of getting the crowd up for the game.
Brown said on MUTV [as quoted by Metro], “We’re gonna have to have courage.”
“We’re gonna have to be strong. I think Chelsea are doing okay at the moment. If someone can smash Garnacho that’s even better.”
The Champions League winner added, “We need to make it a game where we get the crowd behind us, and we get opportunities.”
Garnacho made 144 appearances for United, scoring 26 goals and providing an additional 22 assists.
