Terrible news for Wesley.
After the injury sustained against Egypt, the Brazilian underwent tests that revealed an adductor injury. In his place, Brazil called up Ederson.
This was a forced decision for coach Carlo Ancelotti, who, like everyone at Roma—from the fans to Gian Piero Gasperini—had hoped for a different outcome from today’s tests.
Just yesterday, Ancelotti spoke about Wesley after his injury: “I hope it’s nothing serious, that he receives the necessary treatment and can continue with us on this journey. But I don’t deny that there’s urgency and concern, should it be something serious.”
The recovery time will be assessed in the coming hours. It remains a tough blow for the player, who in just a few days has gone from joy at his first World Cup call-up to disappointment at his withdrawal.
