West Brom are targeting a January move for Dimitris Kalosmakis but face potential competition from Southampton

West Brom are among the sides interested in signing Dimitris Kaloskamis from AEK Athens in the January transfer window.

According to Teamtalk, the Baggies are turning their attention to the Greece U21 international already, just weeks after the summer market closed.

The Midlands outfit have made a promising start to the new campaign under James Morrison, and will be hoping to maintain this form over the coming months.

Albion narrowly avoided relegation to League One last season, finishing 20th in the Championship table.

West Brom invested in the first team squad in the summer following their survival, adding 10 new players to Morrison’s side.

This included the return of Toby Collyer from Manchester United on a permanent basis, as well as the likes of Felix Horn Myhre, Kareem Tunde and Rabby Nzingoula, among others.

It’s believed that West Brom are interested in a deal to sign Kaloskamis from AEK Athens when the winter market opens on 1 January.

It’s understood that the 21-year-old has asked to leave the Greek side in the new year, which has opened the door for a possible move to the Hawthorns.

The versatile player, who is capable of playing in midfield or as a winger, signed for the Super League side in a deal worth just under £1 million last summer.

However, he made just 14 appearances in the league for Athens, including nine starts, and has yet to feature for the side in the new campaign either.

This has fuelled speculation that he could depart the club in January, with Southampton also keeping a close eye on the situation.

But it’s been claimed that the youngster also has interest from La Liga side Levante, who have held talks over a potential move already.

West Brom’s promising start to the season

West Brom have made a promising start to the new season under Morrison, who was confirmed as head coach at the tail end of 2025/26.

The 40-year-old has overseen four wins from their first seven fixtures, with the team earning a total of 14 points from a possible 21.

The Baggies are currently third in the Championship table, albeit both Wolves and Middlesbrough are within three points and have played a game fewer.

Next up for Albion is a trip to face rivals Wolves at Molineux on 20 September in a 12pm kick-off.

It would be easy for clubs to lay low for a couple of months after the busy summer market, but it’s clear that West Brom are already trying to line up moves ahead of the winter market.

It’s apparent that this opportunity has arisen very suddenly to sign a young player that’s shown a lot of promise, but hasn’t quite been able to make it work at Athens.

However, the competition from both Southampton, should they trigger a pursuit of his signature, and Levante will be difficult to overcome.
