West Brom’s pre-season schedule is taking shape, with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Sheffield Wednesday at St George’s Park on Saturday, 11 July. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the fixture forms part of preparations for the new EFL season.
The meeting repeats last term’s final day, when Wednesday won 2-1. It was their only home victory of a grim campaign that ended with them bottom on zero points after an 18-point deduction for severe financial mismanagement.
Albion had secured Championship survival the previous weekend despite being docked two points for breaching profit and sustainability rules. That defeat was their only loss after James Morrison was confirmed as manager until the end of the season in early March.
Morrison has since been appointed permanent boss after masterminding the escape from the drop, and is now preparing for his first pre-season in management.
Albion’s players are due back later this month, with the Wednesday game one of several warm-up fixtures. The only other confirmed match is a trip to League One Peterborough on Saturday, 1 August, kick-off 3pm, a week before the new season begins with the first round of the Carabao Cup.
