Albion are moving early in the window, working to land Chelsea striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan for around £1.3m and Liverpool defender Carter Pinnington.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 20-year-old England youth international is close to joining, and Albion are also close to completing a deal for Pinnington, who will initially link up with the under-21s.

Morgan scored 14 goals on loan at Peterborough in League One last season and the Baggies believe he can step up to the Championship.

Pursuing Morgan is viewed as a statement of intent, with Albion adopting a front-foot approach after owners Bilkul inherited profit and sustainability problems on their arrival in February 2024. That work should now allow a more proactive push for targets.

Boss James Morrison has stayed in close contact with director of football operations Ian Pearce and technical director Dominic Price through the summer. Goalkeeper Max O’Leary is the only player to have agreed terms so far after signing a three-year contract, and the club are hopeful of keeping Josh Maja and Karlan Grant.

The coaching staff will also be finalised, with Morrison keen for Matt Gill to remain as assistant on a permanent basis. He has stressed the focus must be on quality rather than quantity, saying the staff are working through a process together and that changes are needed and will happen.
