West Bromwich Albion are closing in on striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan and defender Carter Pinnington as they move early in the summer market.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 20-year-old England youth forward is close to joining from Chelsea in a deal worth about £1.3m. He scored 14 goals on loan at Peterborough in League One last season, and Albion believe he can step up to the Championship.
Albion are also close to completing a move for 19-year-old Liverpool centre-back Carter Pinnington, who is viewed as a high-potential addition and will initially feature for the under-21s.
Morgan’s signing amounts to a statement of intent, with Albion taking a front-foot approach to this window. Owners Bilkul faced significant profit and sustainability constraints after arriving in February 2024, forcing sales before signings and the need to post a tidy trading profit. That work should now allow the club to act more proactively in the market.
Head coach James Morrison has been in regular contact with director of football operations Ian Pearce and technical director Dominic Price. Goalkeeper Max O’Leary has signed a three-year contract and remains the only player to have agreed terms so far. The Baggies are hopeful of keeping striker Josh Maja and forward Karlan Grant.
The coaching staff will also be finalised, with Morrison keen for Matt Gill to stay as his assistant on a permanent basis. He has stressed that recruitment should focus on quality rather than quantity. At the end of the season he spoke of a clear process and togetherness, and said changes are needed and there will be changes.
