Albion must confirm the futures of out-of-contract players by Saturday, 16 May, the Football League’s third-Saturday deadline of the month. According to ExpressAndStar.com, only play-off clubs receive an extension.
The club have yet to publish their retained and released decisions. Six senior players see their deals expire at the end of June.
The group includes four attackers, two strikers and two wide players, and two goalkeepers. Club captain Jed Wallace reaches the end of the four-year deal he signed in 2022, alongside Karlan Grant, a Baggies player for six years.
Strikers Daryl Dike and Josh Maja are also out of contract. Both endured injury-hit spells but featured for head coach James Morrison late in the campaign.
Of the senior goalkeepers, Max O’Leary, a short-term arrival in January, is out of contract, as is Joe Wildsmith, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough without playing.
Director of football operations Ian Pearce, technical director Dominic Price and Morrison have held talks over the squad’s make-up. After the final Championship match at Sheffield Wednesday, Morrison said negotiations can take time, that conversations had likely begun, and that any agreement depends on club and players matching deals. He added that he hopes players feel what has been started and the principles built for the future.
