West Brom have been docked two points for a PSR breach, cutting their cushion to six with two games left and dragging them back towards Championship relegation danger.
The club said in a statement that, after a two-day hearing concluding on 23 April 2026, the EFL’s Club Financial Review Panel found they had exceeded the Upper Loss Threshold for the three-year period to 30 June 2025. It said no written reasons have been provided, the club disagrees, and it has not been told the quantum beyond less than £2 million, which it calls the smallest P&S breach across the Championship and Premier League. Albion blamed a change to the treatment of community development costs, said the spend related to its charity partner The Albion Foundation, vowed continued support, and is considering an appeal.
The hearing ran on Wednesday and Thursday, with a verdict delivered within 24 hours of completion.
James Morrison has led a nine-match unbeaten run to haul the Baggies away from trouble. Tuesday’s win moved them eight clear, but the deduction drops them two places and leaves them six ahead before Saturday’s home game against Ipswich.
Oxford, in the final relegation spot, can now catch 20th-placed Albion only if they win both fixtures, Albion lose both, and a goal difference of six in Albion’s favour is overturned. For now, focus turns to the pitch.
