According to ExpressAndStar.com, Albion are working to recruit long-time Celtic coach Gavin Strachan as part of James Morrison’s backroom revamp.

Morrison is keen to bring the 47-year-old, the son of Scotland great Gordon, to The Hawthorns as he finalises plans for his first full season in charge.

Strachan has spent the past six years on Celtic’s staff, working under Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers and most recently Martin O’Neill. A former midfielder, he also served as Darren Ferguson’s assistant at Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough after playing for Coventry and Hartlepool.

Morrison has been moving to lock in his coaching team before pre-season. He hopes Matt Gill will stay after the pair guided the Baggies to Championship safety over the run-in.

He is also eyeing former Middlesbrough team-mate Tony McMahon for a role, with McMahon a fellow member of Boro’s 2004 FA Youth Cup winners and most recently York City’s director of football.

Appointed permanent head coach at season’s end, Morrison has indicated the staff might be tweaked and said he met candidates during the run-in but felt there was no need to add at that time. Albion are also close to their first summer signings, with deals for strike duo Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan. Stewart is poised to join from Falkirk for a seven-figure fee, while 20-year-old Morgan is set to arrive from Chelsea for around £1.3million.
