West Brom player ratings as debutants impress in 4-1 Rotherham win | OneFootball

West Brom opened their season with a 4-1 Carabao Cup win at Rotherham, with debutants to the fore. Jimmy-Jay Morgan struck twice and Ousmane Diakite dominated midfield.

ExpressAndStar.com notes Morgan and Diakite led the ratings with eight, while Max O’Leary, Nolan Galves, Nat Phillips and Callum Styles earned seven. Harry Whitwell and Isaac Price also scored seven, with George Campbell, Alex Mowatt and Aune Heggebo on six.

Whitwell produced an excellent opening half, creating one and scoring his first senior goal. Styles delivered a fine cross for Morgan’s second. After the break Rotherham threatened, O’Leary saved from Paul Mullin and Phillips made a key block, before Fabio Tavares struck late to deny a clean sheet.

Galves completed 90 minutes on his debut and looked lively, though sterner tests await. Mowatt took the armband and used the ball smartly. Price was involved in the build-up to the second and was unlucky not to score.

Felix Horn Myhre replaced Whitwell at half-time and impressed for seven. Mikey Johnston came on for Morgan on 65, with Barney Stewart, Jayson Molumby and Conor Townsend introduced on 73, each given six. Unused were Mepham, Bielik, Williams and Ingram, the goalkeeper.
