West Brom have been credited with an interest in Belenenses SAD striker Mateo Cassierra, as first reported by Mais Futebol.
West Brom, who have reportedly already opened up negotiations with the 24-year-old, are seemingly targeting forward reinforcements, with The Baggies also being linked with Watford’s Andre Gray.
Cassierra made his professional debut for Deportivo Cali in Columbia’s top tier, before heading for Ajax the following year.
The young forward began his journey with the Dutch giants in their reserve team and scored 29 goals in 46 appearances in two years.
During that time, he was also awarded chances with the first team, returning three goals from 21 outings during a 3-year spell.
Cassierra then joined Portuguese club Belenenses SAD in 2019, proceeding to make 61 appearances and score 14 goals over the past couple of seasons.
The verdict
It seems that Valerien Ismael is hopeful of bolstering his attacking options at present. He possesses some exciting talents within his front line, but all current options are able to operate anywhere across the front line.
Callum Robinson and Matty Phillips look like the most likely options to play more centrally this season, but the addition of an out-and-out striker like Cassierra may be a very good decision.
The Baggies are filled with creativity and if Cassierra does arrive – and brings his shooting boots – he could enjoy an excellent season with the newly-relegated Championship club.
However, the young forward will also need to be prepared to put in the hard yards, as Ismael is a demanding manager whose success stems from relentless pressing from forwards.
