West Brom want to sign Danny Imray on a permanent deal, but must wait for Crystal Palace to appoint a permanent boss first

West Bromwich Albion have secured their Championship status for another year after a bit of a scare, with the Baggies now keen to put this campaign behind them and focus on the next.

It's been far from a straightforward year at the Hawthorns for West Brom, with the club having to contend with a myriad of off-field issues that have drastically affected their season.

Ryan Mason's departure ended under a dark cloud, and Eric Ramsay's appointment went even worse, and by the end of the Welshman's dismal eight games in charge, relegation became a distinct possibility for the Black Country outfit.

However, James Morrison stepped in to save the day, shoring things up at the back and showing more cutting edge in front of goal to eventually finish four points above the drop in 21st place, despite a two-point deduction.

Morrison has been rewarded with the permanent post in The Hawthorns dugout and has set his sights on one of their loan stars to become his first addition this summer, but he must wait for a few dominoes to drop first before a deal can be completed.

22-year-old Danny Imray joined West Brom on loan in January from Crystal Palace, having excelled during the first half of the campaign on loan with Blackpool in League One.

The right-back has yet to make his professional debut for Palace, and previously enjoyed a loan spell with Bromley in League Two, with his first taste of Championship football coming this January.

Despite being thrown in during difficult circumstances, Imray has excelled, with one goal and two assists from right-back, with his defensive contribution proving to be pivotal in West Brom eventually getting their noses over the line.

It's little surprise, therefore, that the Baggies would like to turn his loan into a permanent one this summer, with the Englishman having just 12 months remaining on his current terms in South London.

However, any deal that West Brom would like to make for Imray is to be stalled until Palace are able to appoint a new boss to replace the outgoing Oliver Glasner, as per John Percy via X.

Glasner has done a hugely impressive job at Selhurst Park to end Palace's over-century-long trophy drought, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield, whilst guiding them into the latter stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League, with the final in their sights.

Replacing the Austrian won't be a simple task, but West Brom will be hoping they can find a candidate sooner rather than later who is willing to sign off on the Imray deal, allowing his permanent return to the Midlands.

The Baggies will be hoping that they can stave off rival competition for the right-back's signature, as the longer this saga goes on, the likelihood that other teams swoop in to join the race increases.

Having stepped in during a tough period to save the club he made over 300 appearances as a player for the club, Morrison was rewarded for his success by being handed a two-year deal.

The Scot has never previously managed before, with his role with the Baggies being his first in senior management, and whilst this is a risk for the club to take, the former midfielder is confident he can do the job, saying: "It's fantastic, a huge honour and privilege.

"I've said previously that I've enjoyed my time and I believe 100% I can do it.

"It's got to be right for myself. Right for this football club. I'll always put this football club first. And I believe I'm ready and the best man for the job.

"I've got a unique journey at this football club and this is the end of the line, and I want to prove to people that I can do it."

Signing Imray would kickstart the summer into gear for West Brom, and his addition would only serve to strengthen their back line, as well as gaining an attacking threat down the right.

Though, for now, they will be waiting for Crystal Palace's decision to get the green light, with the deal hinging on whoever replaces Glasner in South London.
