The Baggies are set to sign Brayann Pereira from NEC Nijmegen

West Brom are closing in on their 10th arrival of the summer transfer window, with French right-back Brayann Pereira reportedly set to sign from Dutch outfit NEC Nijmegen.

This has been reported by Dutch journalist Sander Janssen, who has detailed that Pereira will move to The Hawthorns for a fee of €1.5m.

The Baggies have identified a right-back and a striker as two areas to strengthen come the end of deadline day, and it appears they’re half-way there to completing those two pieces of business.

Pereira’s arrival will add strong competition on the right-hand side of defence, with boss James Morrison also having the options of Nolan Galves and academy product Alex Williams to choose from in that particular position.

As per Sander Janssen’s report for Voetbal International, West Brom are closing in on the arrival of French defender Brayann Pereira.

Plying his trade in the Eredivisie with NEC Nijmegen, Pereira had just one year left on his current deal, and Albion have used that to their advantage to add some much-needed competition at right-back.

The piece details how Pereira is travelling to England to complete a medical, with the fee of the deal expected to be in the region of £1.3m.

A talented individual, West Brom look to be getting their hands on a player who once had a trial with giants of the game Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019.

French outlet L’Equipe reported how a then 16-year-old Pereira explained it had gone well, but PSG subsequently told his coach that they’d “found someone better with the same profile.”

In addition, Pereira, back in 2022, was named by the UEFA’s technical observers in the Team of the Tournament at right-back, with the report specifically saying how the defender “caught the observers’ eye” with a “terrific display” against Slovakia, praising his work getting forward and competing in duals.

That tournament, Pereira would be put alongside names like Jarell Quansah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Harvey Vale, Oscar Gloukh and Loum Tchaouna.

With West Brom set to kick off the early hours of deadline day with a fresh arrival, there’s still the potential for more to come through the door by 11pm.

Right-back was an essential position to fill for both depth and quality, with Nolan Galves still acclimatising to the demands of the division, while it might be better for Alex Williams to go out on loan and have a solid season of regular league football under his belt before he challenges for a starting spot at The Hawthorns.

Pereira clearly comes with an impressive pedigree, having played in the top divisions of both France and the Netherlands, while James Morrison will be pleased that he now has multiple players in each position of his squad.
