Albion will face Sheffield Wednesday in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly at St George’s Park on Saturday, July 11. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the game forms part of preparations for the new EFL season and repeats last term’s final-day meeting.

Wednesday won that match 2-1, their only home victory of a dismal campaign. They finished bottom of the Championship on zero points after an 18-point deduction for severe financial mismanagement.

Albion, who were docked two points for breaching profit and sustainability rules, had secured their survival the previous weekend. The defeat was the only one they suffered after James Morrison was confirmed as manager until the end of the season in early March.

Morrison has since been appointed permanent boss after overseeing the escape from danger, and is preparing for his first pre-season in management.

Albion’s players are due back in training later this month, with the Wednesday fixture among several warm-up games.

The only other confirmed friendly is away to League One Peterborough on Saturday, August 1, kick-off 3pm, a week before the new season begins with the first round of the Carabao Cup.
