West Brom will face Sheffield Wednesday in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly at St George’s Park on Saturday, July 11. ExpressAndStar.com reports that the fixture forms part of the clubs’ build-up to the new EFL season.
The meeting repeats last season’s final day, when Wednesday won 2-1. That was their only home victory in a grim campaign that ended bottom of the Championship on zero points after an 18-point deduction for severe financial mismanagement.
Albion were themselves docked two points for breaching profit and sustainability rules, though survival had been sealed the previous weekend. That defeat was their only one after James Morrison was confirmed as manager until the end of the season in early March.
Morrison has since been appointed permanent boss after masterminding the escape from the drop, and is preparing for his first pre-season in management.
Albion’s players are due back later this month, with Wednesday one of several warm-up opponents. The only other confirmed fixture is a trip to League One Peterborough on Saturday, August 1, kick-off 3pm, a week before the new season begins with the first round of the Carabao Cup.
