West Brom’s 10-game away losing streak ends Mason’s spell

Ryan Mason has been relieved of his duties as West Bromwich Albion head coach after Monday night’s 2-1 defeat away at Leicester City brought yet another damaging statistic into focus.

That loss was Albion’s 10th consecutive away defeat in the Championship - a run that has quietly become one of the worst the division has seen in recent years. It also left the Baggies 18th in the table and 10 points off the play-off places, a gap that now looks increasingly difficult to bridge.

While results at The Hawthorns have been enough to keep West Brom clear of immediate danger, their away form has been a clear contrast. Despite picking up wins on the road earlier in the season, they are now on a run of 10 consecutive away defeats in the Championship.

That sequence is the fourth-longest away losing run in the competition’s history. Only three sides have recorded longer runs: Rotherham United, who lost 14 consecutive away league matches in 2016/17, and Luton Town, who endured 11 straight away defeats in both the 2019/20 season and 2024/25 season.

The Baggies now turn their attention to Sunday’s FA Cup trip to Swansea City, before returning to league action away at Pride Park on 23 January, where they will be looking to bring that run to an end.
