West Ham have completed the signing of teenage Portuguese defender Gonçalo Cardoso from Boavista.
He joins for a fee that is believed to be in the region of £2.75m, according to the Evening Standard.
Cardoso has joined on a five-year contract which includes the option to extend his stay by another year.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene last season, starting a total of 15 games and appearing for Portugal’s Under-19 side this summer.
Asked by the club’s official website what he will bring to the London Stadium, Cardoso bristled with confidence.
“I am very excited and it’s a dream come true,” Cardoso told whufc.com. “I always dreamt of coming to England and now I’m here at this big, historic club.
“I’m an aggressive player, a little bit different on the pitch than off it. I’m calm, and I like to have the ball and build the game from the back.
“I’m here to work and to help the team reach their goals.”
The Hammers confirmed that the new arrival will wear the No. 20 jersey.
