West Ham have authorised Lucas Paquetá to undergo a medical and discuss terms with Flamengo after agreeing a permanent transfer for the 28-year-old.
Flamengo will pay 42 million euros, with payments scheduled through to 2028, after an initial 41.25 million euros agreement stalled over instalments.
Shortly after the announcement, Paquetá posted a farewell on Instagram, thanking staff and team-mates and reflecting on highs and lows. He said he had declined rival European clubs, asked to return home for his mental health and wanted to rediscover the joy of playing.
Personal terms between Flamengo and Paquetá have been settled for weeks. He is set to sign a five-year contract after his medical and is due in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday. If his registration appears in the CBF’s BID by Friday, he could debut on Sunday against Corinthians in the Supercopa do Brasil.
Paquetá has missed recent West Ham matches with a back complaint and asked to sit out training and games after telling the club and head coach Nuno Espírito Santo he wanted to return to Flamengo. The issue is not thought likely to prevent him from playing.
In 2025/2026 he has made 19 appearances for West Ham, scoring five goals with one assist. His last outing was on six January in defeat to Nottingham Forest. He had been a regular starter.
