West Ham United were actively considering a swoop for Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana after he was offered on loan to them, according to talkSPORT.

However, West Ham chairman David Sullivan opted not to follow up their interest to bring the Cameroon international to the London Stadium.

He watched him make two errors when the Red Devils lost to Grimsby Town in the League Cup last month and was not impressed.

The ‘world-class’ Onana has since agreed to join Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor on loan, while the Hammers are in talks to bring back Lukasz Fabianski.

The Man United goalie is a top goalie on his day, but his regular errors have forced Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim to look elsewhere.

West Ham wanted an upgrade on Mads Hermansen after he failed to impress against Sunderland and Chelsea, and Onana was considered as an alternative.

However, Sullivan was not ready to approve the deal and manager Graham Potter should be glad he did not.

Hull City goalkeeper Ivor Pandur and Brazilian stopper John Victor were both considered, but West Ham have decided to go for Fabianski after Wes Foderingham left to join Aris Limassol in a permanent deal.

Hermansen also appears to have overcome his woeful start to life at the club.

He kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest before the international break.

The Hammers still need cover after second-choice goalie Alphonse Areola failed to cover himself in glory in the 3-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the League Cup.

Fabianski is the perfect candidate for the job, despite being 40, and he will be ready to impress whenever needed.

He is expected to be officially announced as a new West Ham player before the end of the week, and he has what it takes to give Hermansen a run for his money.
