Jake O’Brien (23) arrived at Olympique Lyonnais for a mere €1m last summer. As confirmed by then-OL manager Laurent Blanc, the Irishman was essentially on trial, with the club considering sending him straight back out on loan. Ultimately, he remained with Les Gones, going on to establish himself as a first-choice centre-back and proving to be one of the central pillars of OL’s incredible revival.

In his debut season at Lyon, O’Brien made 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals in Ligue 1 and finishing as OL’s second-top scorer in the league, behind only captain Alexandre Lacazette. However, there is a chance that he will be sold this summer. As reported by L’Équipe, Les Gones are looking to raise €100m in player sales during the current transfer window and O’Brien represents one of the club’s most bankable assets.

It is no secret that the Ireland international is garnering Premier League interest. One of the clubs interested is West Ham United, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Hammers have added the OL centre-back to their shortlist amid difficulties in completing a deal for Max Kilman, with Wolverhampton Wanderers demanding a £45m fee.
