West Ham United have had a miserable 2024-25 Premier League campaign so far.
Winning just three of their 11 games, the Hammers are currently languishing in 14th with five points above the relegation zone.
Julen Lopetegui’s job at the London Stadium looks safe for now, but it is quite clear that results must improve soon.
West Ham were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window but it looks they could also be very active in January.
According to The Sun, the East Londoners are interested in signing Manchester City’s James McAtee.
The 22-year-old had two successful loan stints with Sheffield United, scoring 14 goals in 75 appearances across all competitions.
But he is now struggling for minutes at City, starting just two Carabao Cup fixtures so far this campaign.
McAtee will likely be available to sign in January, despite his contract at the Etihad Stadium expiring in 2026.
West Ham could lose Lucas Paqueta as they are prepared to sell the midfielder for the right price.
The Irons see McAtee as a replacement for Paqueta, with the City graduate reportedly available to sign for £20 million.
The Brazilian has been one of the key members of the team since his arrival, making 97 appearances in all competitions and scoring 15 goals.
However, he is facing the risk of a lifetime ban after being charged with breaching betting rules.
McAtee is young and talented, and he can be used as an attacking or central midfielder as well as a winger.
He could be available to sign for £20m, which is a fee that West Ham could easily afford to pay.
