West Ham United are interested in signing Barcelona defender Hector Fort on loan, according to Sport.
It could be finalised next week as West Ham bid to strengthen their squad before the close of the transfer window.
The Hammers have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League this season and need to head into the market.
West Ham have reportedly identified the Fort as a potential signing.
The 19-year-old has made only 30 appearances for Barcelona but has delivered three assists and shown flashes of his brilliance.
However, he will struggle to get a look in at Barca with Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia holding down the right-back berth.
He did not get any game time during pre-season, and the signs are ominous.
That has prompted interest in a loan move, and West Ham could be a potential landing spot for the young defender.
However, the Hammers already have Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a player with vast Premier League experience.
Despite a dreadful outing against Chelsea last night, he remains one of the best one-on-one defenders in the division.
They also signed Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer earlier this summer, giving manager Graham Potter two established right-backs to rotate.
Adding another teenager into the mix would only create congestion in a position that is already well covered, while failing to address the fundamental gaps in the squad.
West Ham are crying out for more bite in midfield and greater inventiveness in the final third.
If the Hammers are to turn their season around, they must focus their investment on creativity and steel where it truly matters, not in a department that already looks secure.
