The Hammers finished 18th in the Premier League table, suffering relegation to the Championship.

This has led to the Portuguese midfielder’s departure, with the London outfit receiving £85 million from their agreement with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 21-year-old’s exit could be the beginning of a number of departures of key first-team players, with speculation surrounding the likes of Crysencio Summerville as well.

But Nuno Espírito Santo will also be keen to bolster his squad, with his sights set on earning promotion straight back to the top flight.

West Ham have until 1 September to complete their transfer plans in what could be a busy number of weeks until then.

It has been reported by teamTALK that Arsenal are weighing up a potential move for West Ham defender Aaron Wan Bissaka.

The Gunners are looking at possible replacements for Ben White, who has become the subject of interest from Newcastle United, among other clubs.

The DR Congo international has emerged as an option following the Irons’ relegation from the Premier League.

Wan Bissaka was competing at the World Cup, which had put a pause on any uncertainty over his future at the London Stadium, but DR Congo’s 2-1 loss to England in the round of 32 eliminated them from the competition.

Arsenal are believed to be putting together a shortlist of options to replace White, with Wan Bissaka mentioned as a potential target.

The full-back is one of several names being looked at by the Premier League champions, with the likes of Tino Livramento, Ezri Konsa and Raul Asensio all also on their radar.

It was previously reported this summer that Everton are also interested in the West Ham star.

The 28-year-old featured 25 times in the league for West Ham last season in what was his second campaign for the club.

He contributed two assists, with the team ultimately falling two points short of safety under Espirito Santo.

Wan Bissaka has a contract with the London outfit until June 2031, but it remains to be seen what kind of fee it will take to convince them to sell if Arsenal firm up their interest with an actual offer.

West Ham will begin their Championship season on 16 August with a trip to face Burnley at Turf Moor.

Aaron Wan Bissaka option would be an underwhelming move for Arsenal

If Arsenal are going to sell White, then going in for Wan Bissaka as his replacement would be an underwhelming move for the champions.

The 28-year-old has plenty of experience, but his time at Manchester United showed that he struggled to perform at a club with the kind of expectations that will be on Mikel Arteta’s side next season.

West Ham also hold a strong negotiating position given the defender’s contract runs for another five years.

And their £85 million sale of Fernandes to Spurs highlights that the Hammers won’t be pushed around by Premier League clubs in the market even with their relegation to the Championship.
