West Ham United could be set to take a massive financial hit on Luis Guilherme. The Brazilian is poised to leave the London Stadium this winter window, barely months after joining the Hammers.

The Ukrainian giants have made their move to take him from east London, and he might be enticed, considering how many of his countrymen have developed their game at the club.

The 18-year-old joined West Ham with high expectations last summer, arriving from Palmeiras in a £25.5 million deal. His signing was driven by then-director of football Tim Steidten.

However, his short stint at West Ham has been underwhelming, with the teenager featuring just six times in all competitions, amassing a meagre 50 minutes of game time.

Due to the lack of opportunities, there have been talks of a premature exit, and Shakhtar have emerged as serious suitors for his signature with a concrete bid.

It remains unclear whether West Ham have accepted the offer, especially with other clubs reportedly keeping tabs on the situation.

The Guilherme signing and subsequent struggles in England were among the transfer mistakes that ultimately led to Steidten’s dismissal.

With the summer market buzzing with many potentially exciting centre-forward options, Steidten decided to sign Niclas Fullkrug, who has struggled to make an impact in England with injuries decimating his season.

Seeing how those transfers have panned out, the hierarchy must feel justified in parting ways with the German transfer chief.

If the Hammers accept the Shakhtar bid, they will incur a loss of around £12 million on a player who never settled under Julen Lopetegui and has not found grace with new boss Graham Potter.

With just days left in the transfer window, West Ham must now decide whether to cut their losses or hold out for a better deal as Guilherme’s brief and unremarkable spell in London nears its likely conclusion.

If the Hammers accept the offer, West Ham must hold out for a massive sell-on or first-refusal clause, as he can develop into a fine player in the right environment.
