West Ham United have been tipped to pursue a move for Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn.

The Hammers are looking to inject some new life into their squad this summer and have already splashed out on centre-back Max Kilman and young midfielder Luis Guilherme. Wes Foderingham has also joined to add to West Ham's goalkeeping options.

Next on the wish list, according to De Telegraaf, is a new forward and West Ham are said to be interested in bringing former Tottenham Hotspur winger Bergwijn back to the Premier League.

Bergwijn, now 26, joined Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 and made 83 appearances for the club before a feud with manager Antonio Conte preceded a departure two years later. He managed eight goals and nine assists during his time in England.

The Hammers first made their interest in Bergwijn known in January but found themselves unable to navigate Financial Fair Play rules, but they are now reported to be ready to reignite their pursuit of the winger.

Ajax, for their part, are not keen to lose Bergwijn, who scored 12 goals in 24 Eredivisie games last season.

However, the Dutch giants find themselves needing to invest in their squad after a challenging season and could be tempted to sell one of their valuable assets, of which Bergwijn is one, if the right bid arrives.

A bid of around €30m (£25.8m) would be enough to get a deal done and two unnamed clubs from Saudi Arabia have already made it clear they would be willing to pay up.

Bergwijn must now decide whether he wants to remain with Ajax or head for pastures new. His feelings on moving to the Middle East are not yet clear, but a return to London is thought to appeal to the Netherlands international.
