West Ham have decided to keep Nuno Espírito Santo despite relegation, with Nuno to lead their Championship campaign next season.
The club said in a statement that he has committed to West Ham and is highly motivated to guide them back to the Premier League at the first attempt. They added that, although Sunday was painful, the board have seen progress in recent months and want him to continue that work.
The Hammers dropped out of the top flight on Sunday, with Tottenham’s win at Everton confirming a return to the Championship for the first time since 2011.
His position had been the subject of conflicting reports, with claims on Monday that talks had taken place and he was set to be sacked. By Tuesday, it was suggested some board members wanted him to stay, and the club have now backed him.
Nuno previously spent one season in the EFL Championship, claiming the 2018 title with Wolves with 99 points, and now faces the task of lifting West Ham straight back up.
