Andy Irving has been handed his first Premier League home start for West Ham in a surprise inclusion by Nuno Espirito Santo ahead of their game against Brentford.

In Nuno’s first home game in charge, he has decided to bring Irving in from the cold, with Jean-Clair Todibo also restored to the starting lineup after being left out of the matchday squad in Nuno’s first two games.

Academy graduate Oliver Scarles is also brought in for his first Premier League appearance of the season as part of five changes to the team that lost to Arsenal before the international break.

Kyle Walker-Peters comes into the side whilst Tomas Soucek returns after suspension.

There is, however, still no place for James Ward-Prowse, who has been left out of every matchday squad Nuno has named.

Irving, who was never officially unveiled by the club, has made just 15 appearances since joining West Ham from Austrian side SK Austria Klagenfurt.

He has played a total of 25 minutes this season and was not involved in the matchday squad for West Ham’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Nuno has not been afraid to make big calls as he looks to turn around the Hammers’ fortunes, but with a trip to Leeds United on Friday night, he has rung the changes.

West Ham, who have yet to pick up a single point at home this season, remain winless under Nuno after defeat to Arsenal and a 1-1 draw with Everton.

They take on a Brentford side who have not picked up a single point away from home.
