West Ham suffered a fresh injury scare when Jean-Clair Todibo pulled out of the warm-up before Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa, raising concern over his availability for Leeds United’s FA Cup quarter-final in two weeks.
John McGinn struck before the break and Ollie Watkins added a second after it, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo’s side 18th and four points behind 15th-placed Leeds, who drew 0-0 with Brentford on Saturday.
The Athletic reports that Todibo pointed to his calf after a passing drill while speaking with medical staff. He had been due to start in a back three with Axel Disasi and Konstantinos Mavropanos but was replaced by midfielder Freddie Potts as a late switch to a back four followed.
The 26-year-old, a £33m permanent signing last summer, has been important in recent weeks. If it proves a calf problem, he would be a major doubt for Leeds’ trip to the London Stadium.
Winger Crysencio Summerville is also sidelined with a calf issue, having missed West Ham’s last two matches and a first Netherlands call-up. He is also a doubt to face his former club in under a fortnight.
Nuno said: “It is not good to go into the international break with this feeling. We have a lot of work to do.” He told Sky Sports: “We didn’t play good, we have to react, do things better, and we are in the fight.”
The defeat was only West Ham’s second in seven Premier League games, but arrives with two weeks until Leeds and another week before Wolves visit in the league.
