In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti stated that West Ham United have set their sights on Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gomez. It is understood that the Hammers are looking to get a deal done for the Paraguayan talent this summer.

The 21-year-old is having a solid campaign at the Major League Soccer club as he has managed to put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. Gomez has played in 13 matches for Inter Miami this season, netting three goals and picking up three assists in multiple competitions.

The Paraguayan sensation has proven himself to be a decent contributor at the heart of Inter Miami’s midfield based on his average of 3.4 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.0 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Major League Soccer. He has even distributed the ball relatively well from midfield after making 81.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Gomez is under contract at the MLS club until the end of 2026. Thus, the Hammers would have to make a convincing offer if they want to bring him on board in the summer transfer period.

Should West Ham United Go For Gomez This Summer?

Gomez loves a tackle and can make some important interceptions for his side in the middle of the park. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for others around him in the opponent’s half and can strike the ball with venom from long range.

The Paraguay international is a good dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as an attacking midfielder if told to do so. He would bring more quality and depth to West Ham‘s midfield if he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.

At 21, Gomez still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer and would be an excellent addition to the East London club’s squad in the long run. The South American midfielder has to fight for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium next season. Therefore, West Ham should consider going for Gomez later this summer.
