Manchester United have made their first move in the transfer market this summer, announcing the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Italian side, Bologna.

Adding attacking quality to Erik ten Hag’s side was a must in this window after United’s forward players underperformed last season.

United are expected to make further additions to the front line in the coming weeks and have been linked with a raft of names from across Europe.

One of them is Everton centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is reluctant to extend his stay at Goodison Park beyond his current deal.

The Peoples Person relayed United’s interest in the 27-year-old with multiple Premier League clubs also monitoring the situation around the target man.

As reported by talkSPORT, West Ham United are the latest side to register their interest in the forward with new head coach Julen Lopetegui desperate to add further firepower upfront.

Everton’s £40 million asking price has yet to be matched and given Calvert-Lewin’s injury record and contract situation, the figure might prove to be an unrealistic demand.

With just 12 months left on his current deal, West Ham and other interested parties, including United, will hope to agree a deal at a much lower figure.

West Ham aren’t expected to meet the asking price but their interest is real and could force United to take action should they decide Calvert-Lewin is their man.

United are already in negotiations with the Toffees for centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite and will hope they can also win the race for the forward if they deem the England international as the perfect choice.

Despite his injury record, if United can agree a cut-price deal, the big striker could prove to be a handy option for Ten Hag throughout the season, with his Premier League experience something United are lacking at centre-forward.

However, with Zirkzee through the door and the need for improvements across multiple positions, it’s likely United will play the long game with Calvert-Lewin who will also be weighing up his next move carefully.
