Manchester United have been watching West Ham United midfielder Matheus Fernandes ahead of a potential transfer move in the summer, according to The Athletic.
The club wants to sign two new midfielders and could look to lure the West Ham star away from the London Stadium.
Fernandes is also reportedly on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar, and more suitors could emerge if the Hammers are relegated at the end of the season.
He has impressed in 33 appearances for West Ham across all competitions this term, weighing in with four goals and three assists.
United need reinforcements in midfield as they prepare for life without Casemiro and potentially Manuel Ugarte.
He joined the Hammers from Southampton in a £42 million deal last summer and could already be on his way out even if they retain their Premier League status.
Fernandes will probably be open to joining a club competing in the Champions League, and the Red Devils should qualify if they win three of their remaining five games.
West Ham are currently 17th in the table, but just two points separate them from the relegation zone. They need to win most of their remaining games to stay up.
Surviving the drop could boost their chances of holding on to the Portuguese international, and Hammers manager Nuno Espirito Santo will be desperate to persuade him to stay.
