West Ham United have reignited interest in Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika following the departure of Edson Alvarez to Fenerbahce, according to Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The Hammers wanted to bolster their options in the middle of the park before the departure of the Mexican.
His exit has left them with no choice, and a concrete move for Onyedika could be on the cards after they were linked in June.
Juventus also want the 24-year-old Nigerian international, but he is keen on joining the Hammers.
However, the chance to play in the Champions League this term could be appealing after Brugge secured a 3-1 victory in the first leg of the play-offs at Rangers.
The West Ham target played 89 minutes against the Scottish Premiership club, and Brugge are expected to get the job done next week in the second leg.
He made 52 appearances across all competitions last term, weighing in with two goals and two assists.
Onyedika has impressed in the Belgian Pro League over the last three seasons, emerging as one of the best in his position.
West Ham’s lack of verve in such a crucial position was evident against Sunderland in their 3-0 defeat last weekend.
They are back in action on Friday night when they play Chelsea in their first home Premier League game of the new campaign.
West Ham are not favourites on paper against the Blues, and failure to pick up a result could start piling the pressure on Potter.
They need more quality additions before the summer transfer window closes, and signing Onyedika and two or more top players will come in handy.
