West Ham United have completed the signing of London City Lionesses midfielder Katie Zelem on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Hammers this evening.

The 30-year-old has spent the first half of this season with London City Lionesses after joining the club from American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Angel City last summer. The player has also turned out for Liverpool, Juventus and Manchester United in her career to date. She worked with new Hammers boss Rita Guarino at Juventus and the pair won the Italian Serie A Women Athora league title back in 2017/2018.

On the international stage, Zelem has been capped by England on 12 occasions at senior level.

After joining West Ham United on loan, Zelem said “I’m so excited to be joining West Ham United.

“I’m a technical player who loves to get on the ball and make things happen. I want to be successful here and use my experience to help the team as much as possible. I know that there’s a great group of girls in the building and we have a solid foundation to build on for the rest of the season.

I’ve also worked with Rita [Guarino] before at Juventus, so she was a big factor in me joining the Club. I like her style of play and what she’s trying to build here. We have always had a good relationship and it’s really nice to be reunited.

“I’m a huge football fan, so I’m aware of the Club’s rich history. I can feel the positive energy already and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Zelem links-up with the West Ham United squad ahead of Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City.
