West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse is not allowed to feature in 11-v-11 sessions during training and has to train by himself, according to The Athletic.

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo leads and oversees all the Hammers’ training sessions, which are often split into two groups.

The first group consists of the starting XI as the London Stadium club prepare for games, and the other group consists of the fringe players.

Ward-Prowse has been part of the latter since Nuno became West Ham boss last September.

The two groups do not train together until there is an 11-v-11 session, which the Englishman is not part of.

Before the Portuguese’ first session at Rush Green after taking over, he greeted his players and then informed Ward-Prowse privately that he did not feature in his plans.

The 31-year-old featured in each of the opening six games of 2025-26 under Graham Potter but has not featured in a West Ham matchday squad since Nuno arrived.

Both appeared to have fallen out when Ward-Prowse joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2024-25 season but had the deal terminated after five months.

The midfielder is expected to leave before the end of the ongoing winter transfer window, but his professionalism has impressed some at West Ham.

He has not sulked around the training ground since getting excluded from the first-team in the past three and a half months.

Ward-Prowse will not be short of suitors given what he brings to the table, but he could outlast Nuno at the club if he does not leave this month.

The Portuguese is under growing pressure following a woeful run of two wins in 16 Premier League games since his arrival.

West Ham are 18th in the league table after 21 games, seven points off safety, and they will be desperate to leave Tottenham Hotspur with a result tomorrow.
