West Ham United are at a pivotal moment. The team have suffered from a lack of goals that have forced them to rely too much on midfielders and wingers. This has made the attack flat, repetitive and easy to stop. Opponents have picked up on this. With Graham Potter at the helm, the management know they need a striker to freshen up the front line. Every recent game has exposed that lack. Without a clear point of reference in the box, crosses go astray and attempts from midfield become predictable. The fans are calling for a real change, and the club seem willing to listen to them.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, one of the most reliable Italian journalists in market matters, West Ham have already asked for Andrea Pinamonti. The 26-year-old striker is reportedly set to leave Sassuolo this summer. Potter sees him as a possible solution to fill the goalscoring gap. Last season, Pinamonti showed instinct and good clinical edge in the box. The Italian scored 11 goals and provided one assist in the 2024/25 season. The English club need just that: a “nine” who can hold up the ball and score clincial goals. The operation is still in its early stages, but the enquiry is already a clear sign that the management is taking action. The Hammers have been linked to selling Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham this summer, and hence, the signing becomes more vital.
But what can Pinamonti bring to the table? On the plus side, he has height, physical presence and the ability to pin down centre-backs. His aerial play would help exploit sideways crosses, an asset West Ham already use. However, the Italian is not a striker with scandalous numbers. At Sassuolo, he showed spells but did not maintain scoring consistency. The big question is whether he will be enough for the Premier League.
Potter could place him as a lone striker in his system, leaving the wingers free to link up. That reference would allow Bowen to attack space without the pressure of always being the scorer. The main advantage is tactical variations. If Pinamonti can fit in quickly, it will free up the midfielders and reduce the predictability that has done so much damage.
On the other hand, if he does not adapt, the team will continue to fall prey to the same vices. West Ham need goals, but also confidence. Signing Pinamonti guarantees nothing, although it does show that the board are trying to correct a glaring flaw. At this point, any attempt to break the monotony is worthwhile. The important thing will be for Graham Potter to get real value from the first minute.
